The Seamwrights

The Seamwrights are the guild that certifies all frame work in the city. No frame is legally mended, rebuilt or retired without their seam.

Their mark is the gold seam: damaged frames repaired with visible gold, kintsugi-fashion. Above the clouds the seams are hidden. Below them they are worn openly, as status and as biography — a person's repairs are a person's record.

The guild also controls, quietly and completely, the seam-gold trade. What the Seamwrights do not certify still gets done — in the Underrise, off the record, sometimes with finer gold.
